About the Position
This is an exciting role that is part of the strategic leadership team and reports directly to the President. The role puts an emphasis on team leadership, innovation, technical application, and interdepartmental collaboration.
EQI is responsible for ensuring engineering and manufacturing projects are aligned with the broader business goals and objectives of Aquify. Key aspects of this role include driving product strategy with form, function, and safety at the forefront, improving on production efficiencies and sourcing strategies to reduce the cost of goods sold and time to market, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, creating a long-term product vision in support of the market growth strategy, and building effective, engaged teams.
Team Leadership
Team leadership includes everything from high-level departmental visioning and goal setting to the day-to-day management of staff, product line development, maintenance and facility operations. With a strong understanding of departmental and business objectives, the Director EQI prioritizes resources and workloads to deliver projects on time and on budget. Safety of staff, and by extension ensuring adherence to applicable regulations is of the utmost importance. Demonstrating leadership by representing Aquify on the Model Aquatic Health Code, ASTM and NSF committees
Driving Innovation
The Director EQI works closely with the President to evaluate and critically assess scientific and engineering ideas and develops and proves the market requirements process. Evaluation will require you to draw on experience and understanding of science, fields of specialty, data and observations, and industry needs.
Technical Application
The Director EQI oversees the creation of the market requirements document, and creation and management of all products made in house or distributed. In addition to providing oversight, you will be an active team member, developing and carrying out experiments, prototypes and developing the processes and procedures for all team members internally and externally to follow.
Interdepartmental Collaboration
Integral to the role is support for other departments and teams within the organization. Working closely with Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Product Support, and Product Design is critical for success. Many customer interactions are required and excellent customer facing skills are paramount. Collaboration is key when many stakeholders are remote.

Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or equivalent experience and qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in the recreational aquatics industry
- Progressive management experience managing product development processes, designing, and engineering safe, functionally appropriate, optimized products, leading teams, and developing business strategy with supporting budgets
- Experience designing for standards like ASME, NSF, CSA, ASTM, EN
- Lean Manufacturing certification or similar (Kaizen, Six Sigma. 5S, TPM, etc.)
- Previous experience in product development for commercial aquatics industry
- Proven record of turning scientific and engineering ideas into marketable products
- Familiarity with Stage Gate product development process and project management
- Experience working with customers and stakeholders
- Additional formal business management training and/or an MBA would be an asset
